There are certain facts which have been drummed into the average football supporter’s head this season to such an extent that they now go without saying. If you’d spent the last few months living in a nuclear bunker and turned down the option of cable TV, you could be forgiven for missing the takeover of Chelsea by some Russian who’s not short of a few bob. News of Beckham’s transfer would no doubt have found its way through your six-foot concrete shell, however; some things truly are inescapable. (more…)

No More Draws?

The Football League is apparently discussing proposals to decide drawn games using a penalty shoot-out. As I understand it, should the teams be level after the regulation 90 minutes, the suggestion is that spot-kicks would be used to decide the match. The current points structure (three for a win, one each for a draw) would still apply, but a bonus point would be awarded to the team winning the penalty competition in the event of a draw. (more…)
